Registration Report Analysis - 2025 December Taiwan Car Market

Market Overview: The total number of new vehicle registrations in December reached 47,303 units, representing a 29.7% increase compared with November and a 14.5% increase compared with December last year. As the final month of 2025, all brands actively focused on selling existing model-year vehicles to accelerate inventory clearance, while also aggressively collecting orders for new model-year vehicles. Combined with the effectiveness of the excise tax rebate policy for vehicles under 2,000cc, all major brands except Lexus recorded growth compared with November, with Tesla posting the largest increase at 942.7%. Among the major brands, CMC recorded the smallest increase at 2.2%, while Lexus was the only brand to post a decline, falling by 29.1%, mainly due to reduced deliveries of its key models including the NX, RX, UX, and LBX compared with November. For the full year of 2025, total market registrations amounted to 414,436 units, a 9.5% decline compared with last year. This outcome aligns with our forecasts over the past several months and successfully keeps the annual decline within 10%. Throughout 2025, the automotive market faced significant challenges due to tariff-related issues associated with U.S. President Donald Trump. Although the domestic economy has remained generally stable, the outlook for the market next year cannot be viewed with excessive optimism.

Market share of brands:

In terms of brand market share this month, Toyota/Lexus continued to lead with 30.9%, followed by Tesla in second place with 11.7%, Honda in third with 7.0%, Mercedes-Benz in fourth with 4.9%, Mazda in fifth with 4.7%, Hyundai in sixth with 4.3%, CMC in seventh with 3.8%, Ford in eighth with 3.4%, and BMW in ninth with 3.3%. This month, all major brands except Lexus recorded growth compared with November, delivering solid sales performance in the final sales month of 2025.

Comparison between domestic cars and imported cars (excluding heavy duty trucks):

The sales ratio between domestic and imported vehicles this month was 47.6% versus 52.4%. Imported passenger vehicle sales surged by 24.8% compared with the same period last year and increased significantly by 36.8% compared with last month. The main reasons were the arrival of Tesla Model Y shipments, resulting in large-scale deliveries totaling 5,124 units, as well as various brands delivering inventory vehicles and newly arrived units in the final sales month of 2025 to help achieve performance targets before year-end settlement.

Outstanding models:

A total of 10 models exceeded 1,000 units in sales this month: Model Y with 5,124 units, Corolla Cross with 4,804 units, RAV4 with 2,353 units, HR-V with 1,645 units, Town Ace with 1,504 units, Yaris Cross with 1,303 units, J Space with 1,221 units, CX-5 with 1,203 units, CR-V with 1,134 units, and Corolla Altis with 1,104 units. In the small commercial vehicle segment, Town Ace made a strong comeback this month after trailing J Space for several months, surpassing it with 1,504 registrations versus J Space’s 1,221 units. The subsequent competitive trend is worth close observation.

BEVs market:

A total of 7,186 pure electric vehicles were delivered this month, marking a massive 450.6% increase compared with last month. This surge was mainly driven by the arrival of Tesla shipments, leading to large-scale deliveries of the Model Y, which reached 5,124 registrations. As a result, the Model Y became the top-selling vehicle across all segments this month, capturing a commanding 71.4% share of the pure EV market. Luxgen n⁷ ranked second in the EV market this month with 390 units. However, following the acquisition of the brand by Foxconn Industrial Internet (Honghua Advanced), no new vehicles bearing the Luxgen brand will be launched once current vehicle deliveries are completed. Other EV registrations include: Model 3 with 351 units, bZ4X with 235 units, EX30 with 203 units, iX1 with 103 units, ID. Buzz with 76 units, iX2 with 65 units, Model X with 62 units, and Macan Electric with 59 units. This month, the domestic EV market surged to a peak due to Tesla’s large-scale deliveries. In addition, shortly after announcing the acquisition of Luxgen, Honghua Advanced unveiled the all-new Bria, which registered 18 units this month. Its order intake performance will require continued observation.
